
Yesterday, a Smyrna Police Department officer shot a man suspected of breaking into cars at an apartment complex in Smyrna, Tennessee. As reported by FOX 17, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is now leading the probe into the shooting, which unfolded after police responded to a tip about two individuals tampering with vehicles on Great Circle just around 2 a.m.
The situation reportedly escalated after a foot pursuit initiated by the officers, and one officer discharged their firearm, wounding one of the suspects who has since been hospitalized, while the alleged accomplice managed to evade capture, this sequence of events is presently under review by TBI agents who are tasked with piecing together the happenings independently. WSMV notes no law enforcement officers were harmed during the incident.
According to NewsChannel 5, authorities arrived at Sterling Apartments following reports of vehicular damage, but as they confronted the suspects, one fled leading to the ensuing chase. The TBI has emphasized its role as fact-finders, stating, "Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with the district attorney general for his further review and consideration," clarifying their position as neutral investigators in such cases, as per WSMV.
