Three women were injured in South Los Angeles on Saturday evening when their car was struck by an LAPD vehicle engaged in a high-speed chase. The collision, reported by ABC7, occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. LAPD officers were pursuing a driver suspected of DUI when the crash happened, leaving the woman's vehicle damaged and its occupants in need of medical attention.
The chase began just before 8 p.m. and abruptly concluded with the crash. An ambulance was quickly called to the scene to attend to the injured women who were still conscious and breathing following the incident. Details regarding whether they were involved in the chase or simply unfortunate bystanders were not immediately disclosed. The condition of the officers in the police vehicle has also remained unreported. According to CBS Los Angeles, the LAPD cruiser appeared to have sustained heavy damage.
Despite the initial confusion, subsequent reports clarified the timeline, with the chase starting at around 7:43 p.m. and ending just a minute later with the collision. Officer J. Chaves of the LAPD told City News Service, "The officers were chasing a motorist whom they believed might be under the influence of drugs or alcohol."
It is unclear whether the LAPD will release further details on the conditions of the women, or the officers involved.
