The Outdoor Recreation School is offering a unique experience on the ice. Scheduled for Sunday, February 9 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., the school invites individuals and families to Cleary Lake Regional Park for an afternoon of kicksledding—an activity with roots in Scandinavia that has participants gliding across snow and ice on a chair-mounted sled with skis.
According to Scott County's announcement, this event is more than just kicksledding; it's a geocaching adventure as well. Participants will learn how to navigate with GPS units in search of hidden surprises throughout the park. If the weather proves uncooperative with insufficient snow or ice, the event will pivot to a hiking escapade.
The cost for this winter escapade is a reasonable $6, and those interested are prompted to secure their spots with a reservation by calling 763-559-6700. There's an added incentive for group bookings, with a generous 20 percent discount extended to parties of four or more. It's a community-oriented event, welcoming participants as young as 2 years of age, though children 11 and under will need to be chaperoned by an adult.
