High-speed drama unfolded on Interstate 40 West when a red Mustang, clocked at a whopping 95 miles per hour with a child on board, led to the arrest of two individuals with substantial criminal records. WSMV reports that upon being halted by a Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) officer, the driver—a 35-year-old man from Whites Creek—reacted confrontationally and resisted arrest vehemently, uttering, "I was not going to be handcuffed."

An off-duty security guard observed the tussle and intervened to assist the officer in detaining the man, who, apart from his traffic indiscretion, had active warrants in Smyrna and Montgomery County for failure to appear in court and a domestic order of protection violation. He was also found to have a revoked license. According to the WKRN account, his defiance has now additionally earned him charges of failure to yield, driving on a revoked license, and resisting arrest.

The passenger, a 38-year-old Joelton woman, was not spared either. Law enforcement ascertained that she too had pending legal issues, namely outstanding warrants for domestic assault in Nashville and shoplifting in Rutherford County. As the adults faced the consequences of their actions, the minor in the vehicle was shepherded to safety in Mt. Juliet, reuniting with a family member who took her into care.

"Another great example of proactivity and holding criminals accountable– ensuring safety in our community," MJPD shared on X, as found on their official post. Their vigilance on the roads not only prevented a potentially tragic outcome from reckless speeding but also facilitated the apprehension of individuals who had eluded the hand of justice, all while safeguarding an innocent child amidst the chaos.
