Tragedy struck early Saturday morning on I-43 near National Avenue, when a car carrying three passengers entered the northbound lanes in the wrong direction, resulting in a fatal collision that left two dead and three injured. According to CBS 58, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials have reported that the accident occurred just after 5:00 am, involving two vehicles—one of which contained the victims—entered the freeway via Plankinton Avenue and went the wrong way before the crash ensued.
The impact of the mishap was devastating as it claimed the lives of a man and a woman seated in the front of the errant car, and inflicted major injuries on another female passenger in the backseat, as detailed by Journal Sentinel, on the other hand, the second vehicle, holding an adult male and a child, were both fortunate to have survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Milwaukee County Interstate has seen a string of wrong-way driving incidents in the recent months, creating a pattern of trepidation among local residents. Last October, a disturbing event occurred when a suspected drunk driver entered I-94 going the wrong way, nearly colliding with Vice President Kamala Harris' motorcade, this account was obtained from a TMJ4 report which also included the concerns of Natalia Zambrano, a Milwaukee resident of seven years, who expressed the intersection's perplexity by stating, "This is such a confusing intersection; they should take more action about it." The search for answers persists as the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office investigates the deadly collision and continues to look for a second wrong-way vehicle described as a dark or silver SUV—with no current evidence linking the two vehicles.
