Early Wednesday morning, two individuals were hospitalized after a shooting event unfolded at a Northwest Austin apartment complex. The Austin Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at the Chesapeake Apartments around 12:45 a.m., as confirmed by KVUE. The exact nature of the victims' injuries has not been disclosed, and authorities are still on the lookout to possibly identify and apprehend any suspects involved.
Located at 12300 Hymeadow Drive, near U.S. Hwy 183 and Anderson Mill Road, the Chesapeake Apartments became the scene of investigation after the shootings took place just after midnight. One of the residents, Dylan Ibarra, recalled the harrowing moments, stating, "I spoke with police and made the call when I heard gunfire right outside my window," in an interview obtained by CBS Austin. EMS quickly transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment following the incident.
While the Austin Police Department continues their inquiry, no updates on the victims' current condition have been provided to the public. The tense situation at the apartment complex seems to have deescalated since the police declared the scene clear.
Despite the ongoing investigation, police have yet to make any arrests or officially identify suspects. The community, rattled by such an event, is waiting to quickly see justice served. Residents and the broader Austin community are encouraged to come forward with any information that could potentially assist law enforcement in solving this case. The Austin Police Department is actively reaching out for witnesses or anyone with knowledge pertaining to the shooting to contact them.
