Elle Eisele, a 19-year-old sophomore at the University of Georgia, has become the latest plaintiff to join a lawsuit following a devastating terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day. Eisele, who sustained critical injuries after a truck driven by 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar plowed through a crowd on Bourbon Street, is among 21 plaintiffs accusing the city of negligence, Fox 5 Atlanta reported.

According to details shared by Atlanta News First, the lawsuit, which was filed by the legal firms Romanucci & Blandin and Maples & Connick, alleges the city and other defendants failed to provide adequate public safety measures and security protocols during the celebrations. The incident, which occurred when the University of Georgia and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame were poised to compete at the Sugar Bowl, resulted in 14 lives lost and dozens injured.

The lawsuit claims the tragic events were "the predictable and entirely preventable result of a chain of events initiated by the actions and inactions taken by the Defendants," as per the statement obtained by Fox 5 Atlanta. Criticism has mounted over the apparent failure of the city's $40 million investment in barricades designed to protect the French Quarter, a historic area that teems with hundreds of thousands of revelers during high-profile events.
