Universal Destinations & Experiences recently unveiled their latest venture into family-oriented entertainment with the announcement of the Universal Kids Resort, expected to open its doors in 2026 at Frisco, Texas. As per the City of Frisco, Sarah Gibbon, VP & Executive Producer at Universal Creative, highlighted the focus of the resort catering specifically to families with young children. The resort will offer a variety of themed lands based on popular characters from DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon, and Illumination, as well as the adventure-filled Jurassic World.

The planned attractions include a Shrek-themed swamp playground and an undersea neighborhood hosted by SpongeBob SquarePants and friends. According to a release from Universal Parks & Resorts, kids will be able to acquire a boating license or bask in the bubbles on the beach. They've designed each area to promote exploration and imaginative play, providing an environment that reinforces the importance of curiosity, joy, and laughter.

A chaotic splash zone will be dominated by the Minions, featuring competition between the Yellow and Purple Minions, ensuring water-soaked mayhem for all participants. Meanwhile, young explorers will have the chance to encounter the dinosaurs of Jurassic World through interactive experiences specifically created for them. Dan Cuffe, Vice President and General Manager of Universal Kids Resort emphasized the importance of play and discovery with the inclusion of character interactions from shows like Gabby's Dollhouse, which will be present in a unique retail experience at the resort's central hub.

Other attractions will include a glittery music festival with the Trolls and a lively 'kitty adoption drive' with the characters from Puss in Boots. In addition to themed attractions, the resort promises serene areas like a sensory garden where visitors can recharge. A themed 300-room hotel will also be part of the resort, providing family-friendly lodging as well as an easy transition from rest to play. This landmark initiative was first announced in January 2023 and is an effort to expand the Universal brand to new markets through original concepts.
