Earlier today, an alleged ATM break-in led to a car and foot chase in Holland Township, culminating in the arrest of a 26-year-old Venezuelan man. According to WOODTV, Ottawa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) responded to the Lake Trust Credit Union on West Shore Drive near Riley Street following a report of the break-in at approximately 3:15 a.m.
The suspect fled the scene in a silver Ford Fusion, pursued by deputies but eventually abandoned the car after crashing into the median on US-31 near Barry Street, then he proceeded to evade on foot. As cited by WWMT, the man was found hiding beneath industrial equipment with the assistance of OCSO deputies and officers from the Holland Police Department.
No injuries were reported during the incident, and the man's identity has not been disclosed as he remains in custody at the Ottawa County Jail on multiple charges. MLive reports that the man is a Venezuelan national residing in Chicago, yet no information has been provided on his immigration status.
The OCSO quickly located the getaway car exiting Greenly Street, initiating pursuit onto northbound U.S. 31 until the suspect's collision, fleeing deputies managed to trace him again, this time with his capture ensured by a police dog that helped corner the man under heavy equipment nearby.
