In Vista, a gathering has taken place that carries an air of opportunity and redemption. The North County Superior Court's parking lot became a hub for the first North County Community Resource Fair, with hundreds of locals swarming the grounds, according to a report by the County of San Diego. The event, put on by the San Diego County Probation Department and the state Division of Adult Parole Operations, brought about 90 organizations together to offer assistance, including job placement, healthcare, and substance abuse services.
While the resource fair was originally aimed at individuals on probation or parole, the doors were opened wider to embrace anyone in the public needing a hand-up. One attendee, Jason, told the County of San Diego how pivotal these fairs have been in his journey from seeking assistance to now providing it through his work at a mental health provider in Oceanside. He reminisced about the crucial access to services like food stamps and employment referrals that he once received.
Not just a temporary tent city of support, this year-long planning effort, as noted by Eddie Head, division chief for the reentry and pretrial services with the County of San Diego Probation Department, mirrors the success of a similar resource fair in East County in April 2024.
