The Washington County District Attorney's Office, working with the county's Interagency Organized Retail Theft Taskforce, has received $1,545,487 from the State of Oregon to combat organized retail theft. This grant is the largest of its kind in the state, exceeding the next largest by over $800,000, according to the Washington County District Attorney's Office.
The funds will finance a public service announcement campaign with the message: "theft and shoplifting will be prosecuted in Washington County." Shoplifting warning signs will be distributed to local businesses, and some businesses may qualify for grants to improve security systems, as reported by the Washington County District Attorney's Office.
Business owners in Washington County can get a “Theft is Prosecuted in Washington County” sign by emailing Stephen Mayer at [email protected] with their name, contact details, and business location. For security system upgrade grants, they can contact Organized Retail Crime Association of Oregon at [email protected] for help with preventing retail crime, as stated by the Washington County District Attorney's Office.
