Washington D.C.'s streets witnessed a disturbing wave of violence earlier this week as a group of juveniles assaulted a woman, which led to additional arrests, as disclosed by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). According to a statement from MPD, on February 19, videos began to circulate on social media showing the assault in the Northeast area. Detectives swiftly identified the incident location within the First District and found that the young suspects had attacked a female victim near Union Station, repeatedly punching and kicking her.

Further to the initial arrests, more suspects were taken into police custody on Friday. The additional arrests involved a 14-year-old juvenile female, a 12-year-old juvenile female, and an 11-year-old juvenile female, all hailing from Northeast, along with a 13-year-old juvenile female from Northwest. They have all been charged to face serious accusations, such as Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Rioting.

The situation escalated when others tried to stop the attack and were themselves assaulted. However, the MPD reports none of the victims suffered severe harm. Before the latest round of arrests, two other female juveniles, aged 13 and 11, were apprehended on Thursday, February 20. "I commend our detectives for quickly identifying and apprehending these individuals so our criminal justice system can hold them accountable," Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith said in the official press release.

With the investigations continuing, the police are trying to establish if hate or bias motivations were involved, having charged all suspects with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Hate Crime Enhancement). The detectives also collaborate with neighboring police departments to ascertain any connections with similar criminal activities in other areas.
