The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold a virtual public meeting on March 4 to discuss a proposed ban on certain fishing activities near state ferry terminals. The proposal is in response to a request from the Washington Department of Transportation, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public Zoom meeting from 3 to 4:30 p.m. to discuss a proposed rule banning crabbing, shrimping, and certain types of fish netting near 19 ferry docks in Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands. The meeting link is on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife events webpage, and representatives from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Washington Department of Transportation will explain the proposal and take public comments.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has proposed a rule prohibiting stationary gear for recreational crab and shrimp fishing and banning commercial and recreational purse seine fishing, crabbing, shrimping, and gillnetting within 400 yards of ferry docks and 100 yards alongside. Trolling and other salmon fishing methods near terminals are not affected. The full proposal is available on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife current rule-making webpage, and public comments can be submitted online, via email at [email protected], or by voicemail at 855-925-2801 (project code 10992).
