Attention commuters and weekend road warriors of west St. Louis County: plan ahead for some traffic adjustments next weekend on Interstate 270. According to a recent advisory from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), two critical ramps will be closed temporarily to allow for the replacement of overhead message board signs.
Next Saturday, MoDOT crews will swing into action early, starting at 7 a.m., and by noon they plan to wrap up work at the ramp from Dougherty Ferry to northbound I-270, during that five-hour stretch, the adjacent right lane on I-270 will also be shut down, this according to an announcement on the MoDOT website. Drivers should brace for detours and delays, or find alternate routes to reach their destinations without getting caught in the ensuing bottleneck.
The second half of the day brings more of the same, with crews targeting another ramp; from noon to 5 p.m., the ramp from Ladue Road to Olive Boulevard will be off-limits. In parallel, the right lane leading from this particular ramp will also be out of commission for the duration of the work on the overhead sign there.
MoDOT's preemptive action reflects a maintenance routine essential to sustaining the traffic infrastructure, the signs being replaced play a vital role in conveying information to the thousands of drivers who navigate these routes daily, while the temporary inconvenience may test the patience of some motorists, the need for updated and fully functional signage is an undeniable aspect of road safety and efficient traffic flow. Motorists are recommended to carve out extra time in their travel plans or scope out alternative paths, as these closures could prompt a surge in traffic around the affected areas.
