A tragic incident unfolded yesterday mornning when a 23-year-old Weeki Wachee man lost his life following a vehicular accident in Hernando County, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol. The WFLA details that the crash happened around 12:42 a.m. as the driver was traveling west on SR-50, approaching US-19.
Throughout the incident, the vehicle veered off course while navigating a curve, leading it onto the north shoulder of the highway before making impact with a utility pole. According to WTSP, the car was launched back across the road and onto the south shoulder, where it overturned in a series of violent motions.
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the man was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash, which led to him being ejected from the vehicle. Subsequent to the event, he was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, as per a statement obtained by FOX 13 News.
Losing control during a curve, the man's vehicle's collision with the utility pole was, according to FHP, the primary cause of the crash that is currently under investigation. The authorities stress the importance of wearing seatbelts, as this life-saving device might have prevented the man from being thrown from the car.
