The Windsor Police Department reported the arrest of a multiple DUI offender following a hit-and-run collision in the Town of Windsor. Yesterday, police deputies were dispatched to the scene at the intersection of Old Redwood Highway and Starr Road, where they encountered a distressed 17-year-old female victim of the accident, who had been struck by another vehicle that fled the scene.

After collecting a description of the errant vehicle and its male driver from both the victim and an eyewitness, deputies could trace the suspect's whereabouts. They found Benjamin Cervantes-Lopez and his damaged white Ford pickup truck in the 11000 block of Old Redwood Highway. Cervantes-Lopez appeared visibly inebriated and admitted to being involved in a traffic accident shortly after leaving a store, according to the social media post from the Town of Windsor Police Department.

Detecting signs of alcohol influence and spotting several open alcohol containers in his vehicle, Cervantes-Lopez, who was already on probation for prior offenses, including DUI and assault, was subjected to a DUI investigation. The results led to his arrest on multiple charges: felony DUI with injury, having three or more DUIs in ten years, driving on a suspended license due to DUI, and hit and run with injury, along with probation violations.

Cervantes-Lopez now faces a new legal challenge as he was booked into the Main Adult Detention Facility, his bail set at $231,000.
