A tragic incident on the Southwest Side has left a community in shock as a 24-year-old woman, Ghabriella Barrera, was fatally shot while driving her vehicle. According to KSAT, San Antonio police were called to the scene of what was initially reported as a major accident last Saturday around 12:41 p.m., near the 900 block of General Hudnell, close to Kirk Place.
Responding officers found Barrera with a gunshot wound, an unfortunate discovery around midday when the sun cast shadows, making it hard to see the bullet holes riddling the driver's side of her vehicle. KENS 5 reports that after being shot, Barrera's car veered off the road, hit the beltway, and then returned to the road—a journey that ended when police and emergency services were summoned.
Although rushed to the hospital for urgent care, Barrera was later pronounced dead, succumbing to the injuries sustained from multiple gunshot wounds. The area was combed for evidence, with multiple shell casings discovered along the roadway, hinting at the violence that claimed this young life. The exact cause and manner of Barrera's death will be further examined by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, which has yet to release details.
The perpetrator remains unknown, with police still unsure of their identity or the vehicle used. Despite hopes of capturing the suspect, many questions remain about the events leading to Barrera's tragic death, as per a report by KSAT. The San Antonio Police Department is continuing its investigation to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
