A tragic scene unfolded on I-480 in Bedford Heights yesterday morning, where a 19-year-old man was found dead in a bullet-ridden car, causing a lengthy shutdown of the westward lanes near the Rockside Road exit, Cleveland19 reports. The individual, later identified as Johndiel Sanchez Rivera, was discovered by the Bedford Heights Fire Department who responded to the incident initially.
Following the grim discovery, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office took charge of the body. In contrast, the Bedford Heights Police Department took over the investigation of the scene, which had forced the closure of all lanes on I-480 West at I-271 earlier that day, with the Ohio Department of Transportation indicating the closure lasted about four hours before the interstate was reopened, News 5 Cleveland notes.
Amidst the chaos and confusion, a touching backstory on the victim emerged through WKYC, who reported Rivera was not only a young father of three but expecting another child and that he had last been seen leaving work Friday night; he never made it home and was supposed to pick up his children the following morning.
Relatives, left in the unknown for hours, tried reaching out to multiple police agencies to find any information about Rivera's whereabouts and were met with silence until later in the afternoon, WKYC divulged the fact that there was no immediate information provided on potential suspects or motives, yet the investigation by local authorities is ongoing. However, 19 News reached out to the BHPD for more information but has not heard back.
