The recent illegal killing of a gray wolf near Sisters, Oregon, has prompted authorities to urgently investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to a press release from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a $10,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to an arrest, conviction, or civil penalty related to this crime.
The Metolius pack has lost an adult male, with the carcass discovered last Monday. The investigation has confirmed that the death was caused by foul play. Gray wolves are listed as endangered across the western third of Oregon, and such killings are a federal offense. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are all involved in the investigation.
As authorities continue their search for the perpetrator, the community is asked to come forward with any information they may have. Any additional information can be directed to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Office of Law Enforcement.
