An 18-year-old man has died following an attempted robbery that escalated to violence in South Los Angeles, according to multiple reports. The Los Angeles Police Department said the incident occurred early Saturday around the intersection of Florence and Western avenues, nearby the Burger Palace. ABC7 reported that the young man was approached by four other men who demanded his property, which he refused to surrender. This refusal, tragically, led to one of the assailants firing a gun, fatally wounding the victim.

The suspects remain at large following the shooting, and a description of their vehicle has not been provided by authorities. KTLA mentioned that the shooting took place around 3:15 a.m. in the Harvard Park neighborhood, and the assailants had attempted to rob the victim of his chain. "Four Black males approached the victim on foot and tried to rob him of his chain," a spokesperson for a LAPD told KTLA. "The victim refused, and one suspect produced a gun and fired multiple rounds."

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released to the public as the investigation continues.
