An 18-year-old student was arrested after reportedly brandishing a knife during a confrontation at Miami Southridge Senior High School. Identified as Steven Mistor, the senior faced charges following an argument that escalated to a level that caught the attention of authorities on February 7, according to Local 10 News.
The incident unfolded when an unnamed student approached Mistor to discuss threatening text messages he had allegedly sent. The texts were directed at the confrontational student’s girlfriend, escalating to Mistor pulling out a knife and stating, "Touch me, I got something for you," as per the arrest report, which was made public last Friday. The encounter caused concern among nearby students, prompting shouts of "He's got a knife" as they distanced themselves from the altercation, according to NBC Miami.
Described in detail by a witness and captured on school surveillance video, the moment Mistor retrieved the knife from his backpack was pivotal, initiating a series of events that would end with his arrest. School officials reacted quickly, with the school's dean of discipline, Sedrick Cherry, administering a search of Mistor's belongings which resulted in the discovery of a steak knife with a 4-inch blade. The information, shared by NBC Miami, noted that no attorney information was currently available for Mistor following his booking on the charges.
Following the incident, the victim's mother was notified. She expressed her intention to press criminal charges against Mistor. According to Local 10 News, Mistor spontaneously uttered a comment during a search, but specifics were omitted from reports. He was subsequently arrested without further incident and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center by Miami-Dade Schools police officers.
