The Metropolitan Police Department recently made progress in a homicide case from December 2024, leading to an arrest earlier this week. The shooting, which occurred in Northeast Washington, D.C., resulted in the death of 31-year-old Damion Hill, who did not have a permanent residence. The incident took place on the 1800 block of Benning Road on December 30, 2024, around 3:49 p.m., prompting a response from Fifth District officers.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, when officers arrived at the scene, they found Hill unconscious with gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS confirmed there were no signs of life and pronounced him dead. Hill's identity was confirmed in the days following the incident, and an investigation into the circumstances of his death began.
On Tuesday, 19-year-old Caleb Padilla of Northeast, D.C., was arrested in connection with the shooting. According to an official statement from the Metropolitan Police Department, Padilla was apprehended pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. He faces charges of Second Degree Murder While Armed related to Hill's death.
