Early Tuesday morning, a 23-year-old man's life was tragically cut short by a bullet on the South Side of Chicago, in the neighborhood of Auburn Gresham; the Chicago Sun-Times reports that police, while patrolling the 1400 block of West 77th Street at around 2:35 a.m., heard shots, subsequently finding the young man unresponsive on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his chest.
He was rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, but despite the best medical efforts sustained there, his wounds proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead since no arrests were made. A gun was recovered from the scene by the officers; the ongoing investigation is in the hands of Area 2 detectives, according to what WGN-TV shared.
Details on the victim's identity have not been released, nor has speculation on the circumstances that precipitated the gunshot; the community's fabric is once more torn by violence, and a family is undoubtedly grappling with a loss that is as sudden as it is agonizing.
