A hiker in distress found respite thanks to the swift response of the Honolulu Fire Departmenton a popular trail in Hawaii Kai. The incident occurred on Thursday morning, when the Honolulu Fire Department received an emergency call regarding a 25-year-old male who had sustained an injury on the Koko Head Crater Trail. Honolulu Fire Department reports state that the call came in at 08:28 a.m., initiating a prompt reaction from rescue personnel.
Six units staffed by 17 personnel made their way to the site, with the first unit arriving on scene at approximately 08:37 a.m., they then ascended the trail by foot. The Honolulu Fire Department team engaged in a ground search and located the hiker at 08:53 a.m. According to the official Honolulu Fire Department statement, the rescue team provided immediate medical assessment and basic life support treatment to the injured man ahead of his evacuation.
The extraction required aerial support due to the location and nature of the hiker's injuries. Air 1 was dispatched and successfully performed an airlift, transporting the hiker to a designated landing zone. Upon reaching the landing zone, Honolulu's Emergency Medical Services took over the hiker's medical care, ensuring that he received the necessary attention following his ordeal, as per the Honolulu Fire Department.
