The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has confirmed the identity of a man fatally shot during an officer-involved incident in the University City Division as 28-year-old Reggie Allen Knight. The confrontation occurred as officers were seeking to serve Knight with several outstanding warrants and arrest orders, ranging from drug possession to assault charges.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's official release, Mr. Knight's entanglements with the law involved Mecklenburg and Iredell County warrants, including possession of methamphetamine, carrying a concealed gun, and assault with a deadly weapon, among other charges. Officers were also executing orders for his arrest due to a felony probation violation from another county and charges related to driving offenses.
While the CMPD has notified Knight's next of kin of his death, the specifics of the encounter that led to the shooting are still under close examination. The incident has prompted active and ongoing investigations, spearheaded by Detective Guillet of the Homicide Unit. The police department is seeking assistance from the community, urging anyone with information pertinent to the case to step forward and, if they prefer anonymity, to contact Crime Stoppers.
The CMPD has noted that as the case develops further, additional details will be made accessible via their Public Affairs Division. The public, meanwhile, has been pointed to report number 20250307-1347-00 for any supplementary case information that comes to light.
