Police are piecing together the details of a shooting that rattled Pittsburgh's Homewood North neighborhood late last night. Thirty-one rounds echoed through the streets in a string of gunfire detected by the ShotSpotter system, spreading over several blocks, as reported by the City of Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter.
Officers from Zone 5 converged on the corner of Brushton Avenue and Mohler Street around 11:45 p.m., following the alerts. An adult male was found with a gunshot wound to his right ankle, lying on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of Mohler Street, and officers rendered aid until Pittsburgh EMS arrived to take him to the hospital in stable condition. Bullet damage was noted on several homes and vehicles nearby. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported.
The Mobile Crime Unit worked overnight to collect evidence, including shell casings and video footage. As people nearby start to process the shock of the violence, Violent Crime Unit detectives continue investigating to find out who or what caused the attack.
