A fatal collision on Bear Valley Road claimed the life of a 66-year-old pedestrian from Phelan, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department. The incident occurred near the intersection with Bornite Avenue on the night of Sunday at around 10:25 p.m. when an eastbound 2017 Audi A6 struck the man as he crossed the street.
The press release issued by the Sheriff-Coroner’s office reported that responding deputies from the Hesperia Police Department and emergency personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived on the scene to find the pedestrian with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the location. The Audi's driver, a 34-year-old man from Oak Hills, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
Details regarding how the collision transpired are still under investigation by the Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). They are looking into whether the pedestrian may have been crossing at an undesignated area and the possibility of impairment by drugs, and/or alcohol as contributing factors.
