An 80-year-old Portland man has succumbed to injuries from a January traffic accident, marking the city's fourth pedestrian fatality this year. Portland Police initially responded to the scene at North Lombard Street and North McKenna Avenue where Gary L. Boyd was struck and seriously injured, he was still conscious when EMS arrived and able to talk before being taken to the hospital.

Boyd's condition appeared critical at the time, and although he was transported to the hospital immediately, he was unable to be interviewed due to the severity of his injuries, the driver of a 2007 Mercedes Benz involved in the incident had stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers, the investigation into the crash suggested that Boyd stepped off a curb and lost his balance, which resulted in him falling into the path of the vehicle, the driver attempted to brake but could not avoid hitting the pedestrian; the circumstances indicated no signs of driver impairment, and no arrests or citations were made.

The Traffic Investigations Unit received word yesterday, that Boyd passed away on January 22, this was a week after the crash, which the Medical Examiner's office has now linked directly to his sustained injuries. Boyd's identity was released following notification of his family, and the crash continues to undergo review by a TIU crash investigator as indicated by the case number 25-12349.
