Motorists in Alamosa may need to budget extra time for their commutes come Wednesday. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced scheduled repairs for the traffic signal at the busy intersection of US Highway 160 and Cielo Azul, just a hop, skip, and a jump from downtown Alamosa. The signal will be down as crews work on installing new electrical components, and flagging personnel will be directing traffic in the interim. Delays are expected during the work hours set between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. today.
Travelers planning to navigate the area should be prepared for reduced speeds and one-way alternating traffic, potentially slowing down their day. CDOT has mentioned that this disruption is part of necessary upgrades and suggests that commuters through the area give themselves some additional travel time to accommodate the slower pace, according to CDOT. With the traffic signal out of commission during these hours, the usual ebb and flow of vehicles will understandably take a hit.
For the safety of everyone passing through the construction zone, CDOT urges drivers to obey posted speed limits and to remain vigilant, not expecting workers to direct traffic amidst the ongoing improvements. Using mobile devices while driving in these areas, is discouraged, suggesting instead for drivers to focus on the road and be especially alert at night. Anticipating delays, especially during the hours when the sun is at its zenith, and the hustle of daily life is at its peak, drivers should keep a safe distance from other vehicles and be prepared for possible lane shifts.
