Kaua‘i residents planning to sort out their motor vehicle business early this April might need to schedule around a slight hiccup. According to the County of Kauai announcement, all County of Kaua‘i DMV locations, including the main Līhu‘e DMV office and the Kapa‘a Satellite DMV office, will shut their doors on Wednesday, April 9, for staff training.

The temporary closure is set for just the one day with business as usual to resume the following day, April 10, for both DMV locations; the Kapa‘a Satellite DMV, which caters only to those who have appointments, operates from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday however, it doesn’t deal with driver’s license transactions, focusing instead on a range of other services from motor vehicle transactions to tipping coupons the Līhu‘e DMV, on the other hand, welcomes both appointment holders and walk-ins, though the latter are accepted only until 2 p.m.

The Līhu‘e office uniquely offers a dedicated "kūpuna Hour" from 8 to 8:45 a.m. exclusively for elder community members before opening its doors to the general public for appointments and walk-ins. It is recommended that those with an appointment arrive no more than 15 minutes early and no later than 5 minutes after their scheduled time to ensure smooth service.

Kaua‘i DMV is operating as usual, except for a staff development break. You can easily make appointments online through their website for all vehicle-related services.
