The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office took to social media to extend gratitude to the Arlington Police Department for their dedication to public safety, particularly highlighting their efforts in a recent case that has concluded with a significant sentencing. Jamarion Williams, a 34-year-old Arlington resident, was convicted of assaulting a family member with a prior conviction and has been handed a 20-year prison term, which stands as the maximum punishment for his crime.
On a day when the streets brim with life and people seem wrapped up in the mundane, the society's undercurrent of fractured relationships came to an unsparing justice. It was on October 6, 2022, that Williams, in the confines of an apartment belonging to his on-and-off girlfriend in Arlington, engaged in an act of violence. In a desperate bid for safety, the woman fled only to be attacked once more, a punch to the back of her head marking her attempt to escape. It took the courage of witnesses to step in, their intervention culminating with a 911 call that set the wheels of justice in motion, a statement acquired by the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office.
Digging deeper into Williams' past revealed a troubling pattern – a history riddled with violence towards women that includes sexual violence. During the trial, this narrative of repeat offences painted a grim portrait of the accused, influencing the jury's decision on the sentence. The prosecutorial team, composed of Assistant District Attorneys Stephanie Simpson and Darren De La Cruz, Investigator Dara DeWall, and Victim Coordinator Carma Anderson, worked collaboratively with The Women's Center, providing key support throughout the trial.
