Arlington nonprofits just got a leg up from the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation. The foundation has rolled out a new program called the Impact Learning Series, offering free workshops and training sessions for local nonprofit staff, board members, and volunteers. Funding for the program will come directly from the foundation, ensuring that no organization has to dip into its cash reserves to participate. As reported, the goal is to provide the critical tools for nonprofits' long-term sustainability and growth.
The free offerings, underwritten by the foundation's board, will tackle essential skills like grant writing and board governance. Mayor Jim Ross, the board's president, emphasized the need to go beyond monetary donations, stating, "the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation has the funding power to help raise up and train up the city’s nonprofit sector." Despite being busy with mayoral duties, Ross has recognized the foundation's potential to lead change in the community. The initiative follows a comprehensive 18-month study by the University of Texas at Arlington, highlighting a strong appetite among local nonprofits for skill development, as the City of Arlington reported.
Nonprofit leaders looking to hone their governance chops can sign up for the April 26 workshop on board governance, which promises to turn good intentions into effective practices. According to the Arlington city website, space is capped at 130 attendees, so early registration is encouraged. Other sessions in the Impact Learning Series include topics like accounting and event planning for nonprofits, with spots filling up fast, such as the March 21 "Nonprofit Accounting 101" workshop that has already reached full capacity.
Continuing the push for nonprofit success, on April 9, Arlington Tomorrow Foundation also supports the UTA’s Uniting for Good Conference. The day-long event brings together nonprofit leaders, faculty, and students to explore current trends and strategies in fundraising and development. Additional details and registration information for upcoming events can be found by following the Foundation's Facebook page or by emailing [email protected].
