In a recent update by the City of Atlantic Beach, furry friends are now able to take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean unleashed; however, there's a catch. As noted on the City of Atlantic Beach official website, "Dogs are allowed to swim unleashed in the Atlantic Ocean, but only if they are accompanied by their owners." Before you let your pooch paddle out, be aware that these privileges come with strings—or rather, leashes—attached.
Once your dog's feet, or paws, are back on the sandy stretches of Atlantic Beach, the leash must be back on as walking dogs in the water without one is a no-go. And although they can enjoy the freedom of the waves, accompanying owners should ensure their dogs are under direct control at all times. The ordinance outlined by the City of Atlantic beach announcement comes with the friendly reminder: "Please respect this ordinance to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all."
Responsibility doesn't end with the leash, as dog owners who frequent the beachside must also take care of the less glamorous side of pet ownership. The City of Atlantic Beach makes it clear that "Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs," a simple ask to keep the beach welcoming for everyone. So, pack an extra scoop or baggie to maintain the cleanliness we've all come to admire about Atlantic Beach.
