Tragedy struck at an Auburn Hills hotel on Friday evening when police were called to the scene of an apparent murder-suicide. Auburn Hills Police Department disclosed, in a statement posted on Auburn Hills Police Department official Facebook page, that a 34-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, both white and from Saginaw and Vassar respectively, were found dead at the Holiday Inn Express located at 3990 Baldwin Road. Efforts to quickly piece together the events of that night are ongoing, with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab and the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office both actively involved in the investigation.
According to the social media post by the Auburn Hills Police Department, officers who were approaching the hotel room heard two gunshots, prompting an immediate entry into the premises. Upon entrance, they discovered the bodies and a 3-year-old girl, who, mercifully, was unharmed. The preliminary investigation suggests the male fatally shot the woman before turning the gun on himself to tragically take his own life. The child was subsequently taken to a hospital and later released to a family member for care and support. The police urge anyone with information to come forward.
Further details on the matter were reported by The Detroit News, indicating that the incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. Friday. Police have described the incident as an isolated one, confirming that no other individuals were involved or injured during the altercation. The identity of the individuals, while known to authorities, has not been publicly released as a sign of respect to those who grieve in the wake of this horrific event.
The Auburn Hills Police Department has expressed its gratitude to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab and the deputies who have, so proficiently, assisted with the investigation thus far. They continue to appeal to the public for any additional evidence that may shed light on this case.
