Early Sunday morning, the Austin Police Department was on the scene of a homicide in north Austin. KXAN reports that officers were called to the 11600 block of North Interstate 35 to respond to what initially appeared to be a traffic collision but soon unfolded into a grimmer scenario. Arriving just after the Austin Fire Department, who were first to encounter the wreckage involving two vehicles, police found one individual with injuries incongruent with the vehicular accident.
Despite life-saving efforts, the victim suffered trauma to the body "not related to the crash" and was pronounced dead at the scene at around 4:14 a.m., as conveyed by the CBS Austin coverage. Just south of Tech Ridge Boulevard, I-35 Northbound was promptly cordoned off, with APD indicating that the highway closure would be prolonged due to the extensive scrutiny required by the investigation. Motorists were advised to evade the area and seek alternative routes.
The case, now marked as Austin's 9th homicide of the year, has unfolded without an immediate suspect in custody. The other driver, entangled in the incident, has been reported as cooperative with the detectives' inquiry into the matter. Authorities have not discerned any ongoing threat to the public, suggesting the event to be an isolated occurrence. Homicide detectives and crime scene analysts are actively piecing together the circumstances leading to the untimely death, furrowing through the early morning's chaos for a thread of cause.
