The Austin Police Department is turning to locals for help in identifying a man connected to an assault on a female bus rider. According to the City of Austin, the incident happened on January 30, 2025, around 9:57 a.m. in the 3500 block of Duval Street. The suspect believed to be experiencing homelessness, left a woman injured after punching her multiple times in the head and face while she sat on the bus.
The City of Austin provided a photo and description of the suspect as a Black male, last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans, and black tennis shoes. He was carrying various items, which included several travel bags, a sleeping bag, and a laundry bag. These items suggest that he may be camping at different locations around the city.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information regarding the incident or suspect to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. As stated in the APD's news release, "Anyone with any information may submit your tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-TIPS." There is even a possible reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
