Boston residents are facing a wet week, with periods of heavy rain expected to disrupt the Monday morning commute and more showers forecast for later in the week. According to the National Weather Service, today's high is anticipated near 60 degrees accompanied by a strong south wind, and the chance of precipitation is definite. Up to an inch of rainfall could accumulate throughout the day.
Monday's storm is creating particularly challenging conditions for those traveling along I-95 to the South Coast. As reported by NBC Boston, commuters are likely, to contend with one to two inches of rain, with localized spots receiving up to three inches. This heavy rainfall may result in urban flooding and ponding on roads, especially in low-lying areas with insufficient drainage. Gusty winds of up to 45 mph could further complicate travel.
The showers are expected to diminish from west to east by the afternoon, persisting longest near Cape Cod and the Islands. Despite the messy weather, temperatures will remain mild — peaking in the low 60s. Conditions will improve on Tuesday with drier weather and partially cloudy skies, along with seasonably warm temperatures in the mid-50s.
A brief respite on Wednesday will usher in mostly sunny weather with highs around 53 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast. However, another weather system is set to arrive Thursday night, bringing more rain into Friday morning. While not as severe as Monday's deluge, the incoming system is expected to bring in breezy and cooler conditions with Friday's temperatures dipping into the 40s.
Looking towards the weekend, the Boston area will see temperatures climb back into the low 50s on Saturday before another front brings a possibility of showers and a return to typical temperatures by Sunday. As volatile spring weather continues its ebb and flow, Bostonians will need to keep umbrellas close at hand and a keen eye on the changing skies.
