This morning, chaos erupted on Interstate 75 in Sumter County as a bridge collision forced the closure of its northbound lanes, causing significant traffic disruptions that rippled through the area. According to Villages-News, the crash occurred near CR-475 and required drivers on I-75 to exit at SR-44, while those on the northbound side of Florida's Turnpike were diverted at US-301.
Authorities were quick to respond, and by 8:30 a.m., lanes began to reopen on I-75 and the Turnpike, as reported by Villages-News. However, drivers were warned of heavy traffic lingering in the area. The Sumter County Sheriff's Office had previously informed that the collision impacted the CR 475/CR 466 bridge and would remain closed indefinitely, indicating a complex situation.
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that there were injuries in the crash, as cited in a WESH report. This only underscored the severity of the incident and the ripple effects it would have on traffic patterns throughout the day.
