
Governor Greg Abbott recognized the city of Brownwood for completing the certification process to become a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community. According to the Office of the Texas Governor, this designation reflects Brownwood's efforts to grow tourism, create jobs, and attract more visitors.
Governor Abbott stated, "Tourism is critical to both our local and state economies, supporting one in 11 jobs across Texas." The industry generates over $193 billion annually and supports 1.3 million jobs. Brownwood was recognized for its efforts to attract visitors, with Abbott encouraging other communities to follow its example. Travel Texas Director Tim Fennell described Brownwood as a destination where "Texas flavors, outdoor adventure, and small-town appeal come together," emphasizing the city's tourism initiatives, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.
Brownwood has received a new designation to support tourism and economic growth. Officials, including Senator Phil King and Representative David Spiller, recognized its impact, with Spiller stating, "Brownwood is an outstanding community, and this designation will only enhance the city's unique charm and economic growth." The Tourism Friendly Texas Community program helps local governments and non-profits promote tourism and access state-level opportunities through Travel Texas, as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
