Over the weekend, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Anzalduas International Bridge made a major bust, seizing over $346,000 worth of cocaine hidden in a 2015 Chevy Traverse. This achievement highlights CBP's unwavering efforts to prevent the entry of illegal narcotics into the country.
The significant seizure occurred last Saturday when CBP officers flagged the vehicle for a thorough secondary inspection—prompted by both trained intuition and the agency's strict checkpoint protocols. A high-tech nonintrusive inspection, along with CBP canine units, uncovered 10 packages containing 25.92 pounds of alleged cocaine. The drugs, valued at an estimated $346,167, mark a substantial blow to the illicit drug market.
"Our frontline CBP officers continue to remain agile and focused on CBP border security mission and that attention to detail contributed to this significant cocaine seizure," said Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, as reported in a CBP news release. The fortitude of these officers was once again reaffirmed as their unwavering scrutiny yielded results significant to the security and well-being of border communities.
Following the discovery, CBP seized both the narcotics and the vehicle, and Homeland Security Investigations special agents have since initiated a criminal investigation to delve into the origins and intended distribution network of the cocaine uncovered in this operation.
