Yesterday, during a routine patrol, Officer Henn of the Ceres Police Department observed a white Honda speeding down Highway 99 near Whitmore Avenue. The vehicle's speedometer indicated it was traveling at over 100 mph, and it was swerving across lanes. The department’s social media post narrated the ensuing traffic stop and the alarming discovery within the vehicle, which culminated in three arrests.
The driver, 20-year-old Luis Chavolla from Keyes, and his passengers, James Mendoza, an 18-year-old from Modesto, along with a minor, were the subjects of the stop after Officer Henn managed to haul in the speeding vehicle, during the traffic stop it was established that there was probable cause to conduct a search resulting in the discovery of an unregistered loaded firearm that had been concealed in the vehicle. This find resulted in charges including reckless driving and weapons violations.
Luis and James were subsequently transported to the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, while the juvenile's course ended at Juvenile Hall, all booked in connection to the incident and awaiting further proceedings.
