Charlotte has been hit with a tragic wave of traffic incidents earlier today, with two fatal crashes reported within hours of each other, rocking the north and east of the city. According to WSOCTV, a vehicle collision in the 5300 block of Sunset Road at around 2 a.m. resulted in one fatality. MEDIC pronounced the individual dead on the scene.
Shortly following the incident, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) advised that Sunset Road was closed in both directions, as reported by QC News. While CMPD has yet to disclose details surrounding the cause of the crash or the number of vehicles involved, traffic was impacted until the reopening of the road around 6:45 a.m.
In a separate incident, east Charlotte was the scene of a fiery crash that claimed another life. This happened on The Plaza, a major roadway that was subsequently shut down for a few hours to accommodate the police investigation. While officials have not provided specifics on what precipitated the crash, they have confirmed the fatality, as detailed by WBTV.
The second crash on Sunset Road, near Statesville Road, occurred a mere two hours after the tragedy on The Plaza. In both instances, the CMPD has been restrained in releasing information, including the identities of those who died.
