Adam Beckerink, a 46-year-old Chicago man, has been arrested on an aggravated assault warrant from Berrien County, Michigan. The warrant dated October 31, 2024, comes in the wake of the death of his wife, Caitlin Tracey, who was found lifeless last fall in the stairwell of their South Loop high-rise condominium, as reported by CBS News Detroit. Despite the timing of the arrest, it remains ambiguous if there is any connection between the charge and Tracey's death.
The grisly discovery of Tracey's body occurred on October 27, 2024, with a tenant finding her severed foot prior to locating the rest of her body at the bottom of the stairs. Her cause of death, still undetermined, casts a long shadow over the already troubled history between the couple. Beckerink, who had reported Tracey missing the day before her body was found, was detained for questioning but released without charges relating to her death, according to reporting from abc7chicago.
Adding to the complex narrative, court records indicate that Tracey, 36, had filed for an order of protection against Beckerink in October 2023, citing allegations of both physical and verbal abuse. However, she withdrew the request subsequent to her husband's threats to take legal action for defamation and libel. The Chicago Sun-Times also noted that Beckerink had been previously arrested twice in Michigan for domestic violence against Tracey.
Court appearances following Beckerink's most recent arrest have already begun, where his lawyer, John Brayman, described the warrant as "erroneous," according to Chicago Sun-Times. Beckerink has been ordered to remain in custody until the matters surrounding the warrant are clarified. Surveillance video showing the couple together contradicts Beckerink's claim of not having seen Tracey for about a month prior to her death, intensifying suspicions surrounding his involvement. Neither Brayman, nor a lawyer representing the Tracey family, immediately responded to requests for comment.
