Charges have been filed against Robert Romo, 57, in connection with a deadly attack that occurred in the Gage Park neighborhood on Chicago's Southwest Side. Romo is accused of the first-degree murder of Richard M. Romo, 63, and Rita Chavez, 64, after officers discovered their bodies in an apartment on the 5300 block of South Kedzie Avenue late Sunday evening. The Cook County medical examiner’s office concluded that both victims died of multiple gunshot wounds and stabbing injuries, with their deaths ruled as homicides, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Following the incident at the apartment, law enforcement sources detailed an alleged subsequent attack by Romo at the Just One More sports bar, located across the street. Romo, who appeared to be intoxicated at the time, tried to stab a bouncer and shoot a patron before his gun jammed. He then entered the women's restroom, where he allegedly stabbed a woman multiple times. The woman was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital and is currently in good condition, officials said. ABC7 Chicago stated.

Minutes after the bar assault, officers subdued Romo with a Taser outside the bar, as he was brandishing a knife in one hand and the malfunctioning gun in the other. Reported charges against Romo include two counts of first-degree murder,, one count of attempted murder, and one count of aggravated battery. The police have suggested that the brutal sequence of events stemmed from a dispute involving two brothers and their wives, although the precise nature of the disagreement has not been made clear.

Romo, who resides in the Clearing neighborhood, was scheduled for a court appearance today.
