Chicago police have announced the arrest and charging of Reginald Tolbert, a 28-year-old from the 2900 block of W. Flournoy, in connection with the murder of a 57-year-old man that took place in September of last year. The incident occurred on the 700 block of S. California, an area patrolled by the 11th District. Information provided by the Chicago Police Department states that Tolbert was identified as the suspect who fatally shot the unidentified male victim.
Tolbert was taken into custody without public incident on Tuesday in the 700 block of S. Albany and is facing one felony count of first-degree murder, according to the same source, the 57-year-old man who was shot last autumn succumbed to his injuries later on after the shooting, suggesting that the effects of that incident have been far-reaching.
The detention hearing for Tolbert is scheduled for today at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. The court will review the evidence presented by the prosecution and make a determination about the custody status of Tolbert pending trial.
As authorities continue their investigation, there is a notable absence of additional public information concerning the circumstances leading up to September's fatal shooting; the details of what transpired have not been disclosed and no further statements have been made by the Chicago Police Department about any potential motives or if there were witnesses to the crime.
