CHP Task Force Recovers $780,000 in Stolen Goods, Oakland Woman Charged in Organized Retail Theft CrackdownSource: CHP - Golden Gate Division

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has made a notable advance in the fight against organized retail theft with the arrest of Claudia Ivet Cruzbarragan, as their special task force recouped merchandise valued at nearly $780,000. The CHP Golden Gate Division's actions stem from an in-depth investigation into a series of thefts plaguing Bay Area businesses, as detailed on the division's official Facebook post.

Since July 2024, the Golden Gate Division Organized Retail Crime Task Force has been on the trail of this criminal network. Their investigation led to executing a search warrant at an Oakland residence and two storage facilities on February 27. Here, they discovered stolen goods not just in the Oakland home but also within two storage units and a pair of vehicles. 41-year-old Cruzbarragan was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including organized retail crime and possession of stolen property, paving the way for her prosecution.

The recovered goods were meticulously inventoried with the assistance of retail industry personnel, and a collaboration CHP Golden Gate Division Chief Don Goodbrand praised in a statement. "I commend our dedicated investigators for their relentless efforts in recovering $779,000 worth of stolen retail merchandise, striking a significant blow against organized theft," Goodbrand remarked, per the CHP Golden Gate Division. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office matched the law enforcement's zeal, with DA Ursula Jones Dickson stating, "This is a great example of law enforcement working in collaboration" and reinforcing the commitment to ensuring "justice is served."
