Clackamas County Sheriff's Office hit a significant stride by arresting 25 individuals suspected of various crimes, including theft from several retailers. On Thursday, the sting operation at the Clackamas Promenade on SE Sunnyside Road sent a clear message that organized retail crime will not be tolerated in the area. The Sheriff's Office announced that the 10-hour mission resulted in the recovery of $4,700 in stolen goods along with a firearm taken off the streets.

The hotbed of illicit activities targeted includes known establishments like Target, Old Navy, Kohl’s, and Nordstrom’s Rack. Law enforcement officials made contact with individuals as they left the stores and intercepted others they believed were involved in criminal undertakings in the vicinity. This complex operation also led to clearing 16 outstanding arrest warrants. A particularly concerning case involved a juvenile found with a handgun during a theft-related arrest. Another key incident unmasked suspected involvement in an active fencing operation—where stolen goods are resold—as one suspect confessed to theft with the intent of resale.

Thursday's bust was a collective effort, showcasing inter-agency collaboration with representatives from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, District Attorney’s Office, as well as local and Portland-area police departments. Critical support also came from Clackamas 911 dispatch, which provided essential communication services during the operation. The mission received funding through the Organized Retail Theft Grant Program via Oregon Senate Bill 900 (2023), allotting $686,000 to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office to aid in staffing and equipment for these and future endeavors.
