A Clarkston man faces serious charges related to the possession and potential distribution of child pornography. Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald has levied multiple charges against Benjamin Weeks, aged 45, including three counts of Aggravated Child Sexually Abusive Activity and three counts of Use of a Computer to Commit a Crime, as reported by The Detroit News.
During the arrest, officials received about 35 computer hard drives and various other storage devices, all containing tens of thousands of child sexual abuse material files. Some of this disturbing content reportedly involved acts of bestiality. Investigators suspect that Weeks was in the process of setting up a server dedicated to child pornography. McDonald conveyed the gravity of the situation, saying, "The scale of depravity uncovered in this case is shocking," according to an article published by the Oakland County Government.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office informed that their Computer Crimes Unit had to complete an exhaustive 750 hours of forensic analysis to understand the full scope of Weeks' activities, as obtained by The Detroit News. If convicted, Weeks could face up to 25 years in prison for each count of Aggravated Child Sexually Abusive Activity and potentially up to 20 years for each count of Use of a Computer to Commit a Crime.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard also weighed in on the case, stating, "The sheer malevolence of this case is both disturbing and unacceptable," a sentiment that highlights the troubling nature of these crimes. The case is not an isolated incident, with other Michigan residents recently facing similar accusations, including a Metro Detroit urologist and a former Eaton County Sheriff's Office corrections officer, according to details shared by The Detroit News.
At the core of these investigations and charges is a commitment to safeguarding children from further harm. "Behind every one of these images and videos is a child who was the victim of unspeakable abuse. I’m committed to aggressively prosecuting child pornography cases so we can protect the next child from becoming a victim," McDonald emphasized, as mentioned on the Oakland County government's official news release. While Weeks has been charged, it is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
