During a maritime security operation last Friday, the Coast Guard Cutter Haddock intercepted a 25-foot vessel carrying 21 individuals off the coast near Point Loma, California. The vessel, approximately 20 miles west of Point Loma, was suspected of unauthorized entry into the United States, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
According to an official statement by the Coast Guard, the operation to safely interdict the boat involved several assets, including the Coast Guard Cutter Forrest Rednour and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (AMO) patrol aircraft. The Coast Guard Cutter Haddock's crew successfully stopped the vessel without incident. To enforce the maritime law, the Coast Guard has often had to deploy various resources in coordination with other federal agencies universally.
The 21 individuals, referred to as aliens in official communications, were taken into custody by the Coast Guard. Following the interdiction, they were handed over to U.S. Border Patrol agents for processing. This handover illustrates the ongoing collaboration between the Coast Guard and the Border Patrol in managing incidents at sea and maintaining the integrity of U.S. borders.
