A 21-year-old Columbus man has been taken into custody by police in connection with a homicide that occurred over two years ago on the North Side of the city. The arrest of Nehemiah Isom Garnett follows the conviction of a woman who pled guilty and was sentenced the day before Garnett was apprehended. The Columbus Dispatch reported that Columbus Police SWAT officers arrested Garnett on a murder charge for the shooting death of 40-year-old Juan Pablo Aleman, which occurred on January 9, 2023.
According to WBNS, Aleman was discovered inside an apartment in the 500 block of Riverview Drive, suffering from a gunshot wound. Firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene. Video evidence obtained during the investigation showed four individuals, including two females who have been charged with murder, fleeing from the apartment on the night of the incident.
The case took a significant turn in the ongoing investigation when Garnett's alleged involvement became clearer. Authorities shared that they had obtained a recorded jail call in which Garnett is heard planning to rob Aleman. Furthermore, cell phone data placed his phone near the crime scene at the time of the homicide. ABC6 released this information as part of their coverage of the case.
